India is reportedly planning to send a high-level delegation to Iran to meet with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the country looks to balance its relations with Iran and the West while seeking increased energy supplies and closer economic ties with the Islamic Republic.
According to sources, the delegation will be led by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and will include senior officials from the Ministries of External Affairs, Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Commerce. The delegation is expected to discuss a range of issues, including the ongoing negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, the situation in Afghanistan, and bilateral trade and investment.
India has been a major importer of Iranian oil, but the country has been reducing its imports in recent years in order to comply with US sanctions. However, India is looking to increase its imports of Iranian oil once the sanctions are lifted, and the delegation is expected to discuss ways to facilitate this.
India is also looking to expand its economic ties with Iran, and the delegation is expected to discuss ways to increase trade and investment between the two countries. India has already invested in Iran's Chabahar port, and the delegation is expected to discuss further investment in the port and other infrastructure projects.
